In a historical moment marked by war, violence, and profound injustice, the Church of Cagliari responds to Pope Leo XIV's appeal by joining in prayer for peace.

On Saturday, October 11, at 8:15 pm, in the evocative setting of the Basilica of Our Lady of Bonaria, a vigil will be held, presided over by Archbishop Giuseppe Baturi.

The initiative, which will involve faithful, religious, priests, ecclesial movements and associations, will be an opportunity for reflection and testimony. Among the most anticipated guests is Congolese doctor Denis Mukwege, winner of the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize, who will share his experience of commitment to human dignity and social reconstruction in a country ravaged by conflict.

The event is part of the journey toward the Jubilee of the universal Church, during which the Pope has repeatedly emphasized the urgency of not remaining indifferent to the tragedy of war. This invitation has also been echoed by the Italian Episcopal Conference, which encourages all Christian communities to speak out for suffering populations and to promote justice and reconciliation.

"Praying for peace means opening our hearts to hope," the Archdiocesan statement reads, "and recognizing that fraternity is the most authentic way to build the future." The vigil in Bonaria is intended to be a concrete gesture of closeness and solidarity, an opportunity to reaffirm the value of human dignity and the duty of shared responsibility.
