The plastic collection service is not guaranteed in the next few days in Cagliari .
The Municipality reports this, having sent reports to the Ministry of the Environment and the Sardinia Region.
The problem, which affects several towns on the island and across the country, is linked to difficulties in the packaging supply chain. The plastic processing plants are full and unable to accommodate additional material .
A situation that could also have repercussions on the Sardinian capital: "The collection service may in fact not be guaranteed in the coming days, with possible delays or temporary suspensions ", says the Municipality, which "is monitoring the situation", but at the moment is unable to "ensure the regularity of the service" .
The plastic packaging recycling sector is facing a structural crisis, due to the high costs of processing and competition from plastic products from non-EU countries, which have led to a saturation of national plants . This problem affects the entire national supply chain. Cagliari and its surrounding areas already overcame a similar situation a few weeks ago, and it is now recurring.
