Between exorbitant rates, 10 euros for the whole day, and the decision to only allow payment by smartphone, via an app, controversy has erupted over paid parking next to the Poetto Hippodrome .
Last year, the administration set the rate at €14 per day, then, following protests, lowered the daily rate to €10 (which it maintained this year). Now, controversy has flared up again over the decision not to install parking meters, forcing residents and tourists to use their cell phones to pay.

This solution, which was intended to simplify operations, is creating numerous problems in practice. Many complain about complicated procedures, registration requirements, and the need to link credit cards or other electronic payment systems.

"I arrived with my wife and kids for a day at the beach and spent almost twenty minutes trying to figure out how to pay ," says a beachgoer. "I ended up asking other people for help because the system wasn't working. Not everyone is familiar with smartphones."

Parkar, the company that manages the blue parking lots next to the Hippodrome, announced that "the parking meters currently in use are being replaced, as regional authorizations from the Landscape Protection Authority are lacking ." The case remains open.
