An investment of over 22 million euros to strengthen and renovate university facilities available to students in Cagliari.

The Regional Council has approved major funding for the renovation and expansion of Cagliari's student housing , a long-awaited project that will also include bringing the historic Palazzo Vivanet on Via Roma, which has long been unused, back into use.

The resolution was passed only after the new Board of Directors of ERSU Cagliari was installed, despite the funds already being available. The regional executive's decision demonstrates its desire to work in synergy with the new management body and structurally revitalize the right to education.

"This is a necessary and long-requested initiative that finally provides relief to all those who wish to graduate but, due to economic or social obstacles, require support," said Ilaria Portas, regional councilor for public education, during the press conference presenting the initiative.

"The government," he added, "has already guaranteed scholarships and catering services. Now we're stepping up our commitment to hospitality, increasing the number of available accommodations. With this initiative, we're breaking down the economic and territorial barriers that often lead young people to abandon their university studies."

Specifically, the intervention plan—presented by Portas herself based on requests from Ersu—entails: €11.6 million for extraordinary maintenance and furnishing of the Palazzo Vivanet student residence at Via Roma 61; €3.95 million for the structural renovation and restoration of the administrative headquarters at Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, 68; €3.2 million for the expansion and furnishing of the cafeteria in the student residence on Via Trentino; €1.95 million for the completion of the renovation of the student residence on the same street; and €1.8 million for the redevelopment and transformation of the building at Via Santa Margherita 12 into a new university residence.
