On December 31st, a special lunch will be served at the Buon Pastore soup kitchen in Cagliari . As was the case on December 24th, volunteers from the " La Provvidenza Onlus " association, supported by the " Lions Club Cagliari Host ," and likely attended by the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cagliari , will serve meals and ensure that those who visit the soup kitchen every day have a different experience in a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere . The " Lions Club Cagliari Host " will purchase the appetizer and traditional Sardinian Christmas lamb .
The service was created by members Gabriele Asunis and Giorgio Del Rio with the aim of offering a different Christmas and New Year's Eve to the hundreds of people who turn to the Buon Pastore soup kitchen every day for their daily lunch, without any distinction of gender, origin or religion .
In 1923 , the priest Monsignor Virgilio Angioni received permission from the municipality of Cagliari to restore and use a convent in total disrepair located on the outskirts of the city, on what would later become Via San Benedetto. With great personal sacrifice and profound faith in Divine Providence, Monsignor Angioni rebuilt the complex and, with the help of the nuns of the order of the Daughters of Mary Most Holy, Mother of Divine Providence and of the Good Shepherd, which he founded, began to rescue abandoned and impoverished young women from the streets , who would otherwise have fallen prey to unscrupulous individuals. Subsequently, the Good Shepherd also expanded to include young people in difficulty , establishing other facilities in nearby towns, but the main center remained in Cagliari. By the founder's death in 1947, the Good Shepherd had established itself as a concrete organization that offered relief to many orphaned and abandoned young people of the terrible post-war period.
