A hole in the asphalt, caused by a water leak. And a motorcyclist ended up in it with his front wheel.

The accident that occurred this morning on Via Is Maglias, at the intersection with the road leading to the square of the same name, could have had far more serious consequences. The motorcyclist's progress toward Piazza San Michele was abruptly halted when his tire was swallowed up by the pothole, from which brown water was gushing, and he fell heavily to the ground. Immediately receiving medical attention, he was taken to Santissima Trinità Hospital with a yellow code, where he was treated for a leg wound.

A local police patrol remained on site to guard the hole to prevent a repeat, awaiting the arrival of Abbanoa workers. They hoped the work would be done better than last time: the leak had also occurred in that same spot less than two weeks ago.

And the square's residents are making their voices heard: the water system is just one part of the problems plaguing the area. During the day, numerous street vendors hawk their wares to earn a few bucks. And at the end of the workday, a garbage dump remains, which is cleaned up only infrequently.

Adding to the filth is the poor maintenance of drains and sidewalks: the area is rundown and, despite its high population density, Piazza Is Maglias seems abandoned by those who should be restoring it and carrying out maintenance.
