A greater presence of the armed forces, especially on weekends and at night, in the historic districts of Cagliari and strict controls in the small markets that sell alcohol .

These are the decisions taken during the last provincial committee for public order and safety, chaired by the prefect Gianfranco Tomao, after the latest episodes occurred in the Marina and Stampace between vandalism, fights, groups of drunk young people and waste abandoned in the streets and squares .

The prefect therefore accepted the requests of the mayor Paolo Truzzu who is already engaging patrols and agents of the Local Police to tackle the problem. So in the nightlife areas there will also be a stronger presence than the other police forces with the aim of preventing behavior that Tomao defines as "rudeness and incivility".

There is therefore no real "security emergency" but a problem of disturbing the public peace and acts of hooliganism due "to the excesses of groups of young people".

The prefect took the opportunity to thank all the members of the committee, the institutions, the mayors of southern Sardinia and all his collaborators and the offices of the Prefecture: tomorrow will be his last day of work . From Monday Tomao will be retired: «I am leaving a quiet city and province where one can live without particular apprehensions or fears. This is thanks to the collaboration and work of everyone ». For now it will be the vicar, Marie Antoinette Gregory, to perform the functions of prefect pending the appointment by the Council of Ministers.
