Cagliari money transfer company targeted by robbers; four young men arrested
Precautionary measures have been taken against a group of twenty-year-olds from Monastir, Assemini, and Decimomannu. The victim is a Bangladeshi businessman.A joint operation by Cagliari and Milan police today led to the execution of four precautionary measures against four young men under investigation, on various counts, for an aggravated robbery and an attempted aggravated robbery against a Bangladeshi businessman who owns a money transfer business in the city center. They are two 22-year-olds residing in Monastir and Assemini, a 29-year-old from Assemini, and a 21-year-old from Dedimomannu.
The order, issued by the investigating judge of the Cagliari Court, comes at the end of a complex investigative activity by the Flying Squad between August 2024 and January 2025.
The investigation began following a report of a van with altered license plates parked near the Regional Council building in Cagliari . Subsequent searches led to the identification of four young men moving in a coordinated manner at various points in the Marina district.
Subsequent personal searches revealed balaclavas and other accessories incompatible with the high summer temperatures, elements that raised the first concrete suspicions.
The investigations allowed us to reconstruct the preparatory stages of an attempted robbery on August 23, 2024. During the investigation, it also emerged that two of the four young men were likely involved in a previous aggravated robbery, committed on June 4, 2024, against the same Bangladeshi entrepreneur, owner of a money transfer company in the center of Cagliari.
Given the more serious circumstantial evidence against the two young men believed to be involved in both robberies, the investigating judge ordered them to be held in custody. The other two suspects, believed to be involved exclusively in the attempted robbery of August 23, 2024, were instead placed under house arrest.
During the operation, the two men in pre-trial detention, both twenty-two years old and residents of Assemini and Monastir respectively, were located at their homes and taken to prison in Uta. A twenty-one-year-old resident of Decimomannu was placed under house arrest. The same measure was applied to a twenty-nine-year-old resident of Assemini, who was located by the Milan Flying Squad in the Lombardy capital.
