The exact start date for the subway work on the central lane of Via Roma (currently reserved for public transport) has yet to be agreed upon, in a delicate balancing act between pressure from ARST (which is pushing to begin the new work before closing the works on Viale Diaz) and the Palazzo Bacaredda "blockade" which is stalling for time while seeking solutions to avoid traffic paralysis (two temporary roundabouts between Piazza Deffenu and Piazza Amendola and the elimination of traffic lights).

No one knows exactly when, but we're finally here: the signal that the perfect traffic storm is about to arrive, with Via Roma once again cordoned off by construction work, has arrived with the municipal ordinance that, from next Monday until September 12th of next year, closes Piazza Matteotti (the area in front of the ARST) where the terminus of Metro Line 3 is to be built.

A stretch already closed to cars, forced for two years to drive up Via Molo Sant'Agostino, cross the traffic light on Viale La Plaia, and then go back down Via Sassari, continuing for 50 meters to cross Piazza Matteotti. But not to public transportation. Now, with the construction site opening, they will inevitably end up using the same route as cars.
