A 24-year-old Tunisian man, resident in Siliqua and already known to the police, was arrested by the Carabinieri overnight for theft, receiving stolen goods, and misuse of credit cards.
The police responded to a report from a 67-year-old man from Cagliari who, the previous evening, had his wallet containing cash and credit cards stolen in Poetto . Thanks to the information provided and further investigation, the perpetrator was caught in Piazza del Carmine making purchases at a tobacco vending machine using one of the stolen credit cards.
Upon seeing the officers, he attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly caught and stopped. A personal search uncovered additional stolen credit cards.
Once the formal procedures were completed, the 24-year-old was held in the Provincial Command's holding cells, awaiting trial in a fast-track trial scheduled by the Judicial Authority for this morning.
