While he was out, he received a notification on his smartphone: someone was breaking into his home. He immediately connected to the surveillance cameras through his home automation system, witnessing a man breaking into his apartment in real time. At that point, he alerted 911.
Officers responded to the scene and caught the thief in the act: a 38-year-old unemployed man already known to the police. They found him wearing a balaclava and a set of keys that perfectly opened the front door of the home chosen for the robbery. Subsequent investigations revealed the motive: the keys used for the unauthorized entry were those legitimately held by the cleaner who looked after the property. And the 38-year-old, taking advantage of his acquaintance with the woman, had managed to steal them without her knowledge.
The man was eventually arrested on charges of trespassing.
