Three escape attempts in five days. Same person, same precautionary measure, same conclusion: arrested again.
This isn't a fictional plot, but rather what happened in the Sardinian capital to a 47-year-old unemployed man from Cagliari, already known to law enforcement, who was caught violating house arrest for the third time in a week.
The latest incident occurred last night. The alarm was once again raised by the electronic bracelet, which indicated that the control device had been tampered with. Carabinieri from the Cagliari Provincial Command's mobile radio unit responded immediately: upon arrival, the man was found outside his home.
The rubber backing on the bracelet had been removed, rendering the device unusable.
It wasn't the first time. On July 16, the man had been arrested for the first time after being found far from home with his bracelet cut off.
Then, on July 19th, the second escape: another electronic alert, another intervention by the Carabinieri, this time from the Pirri Station, and once again the man was returned to his home after the arrest was validated in a summary trial.
Evidently, however, house arrest wasn't enough to stop him. Even in this last case, the officers detained him without incident and escorted him to the offices of the investigating department for identification and the usual procedures.
After informing the judicial authorities, it was decided – once again – to reinstate house arrest pending a new fast-track trial.
