Over eleven thousand cruise passengers disembarked in Cagliari on Wednesday. A record.

Four ships arrived at the port - between the Ichnusa, Sabaudo and Rinascita docks - at the same time: Star Flyer, Costa Smeralda, MSC Splendida and Viking Saturn.

The first, the Star Flyer, is a 166-passenger sailing ship; the Viking Saturn carries about a thousand passengers, the Costa Smeralda 6,500 tourists, and the MSC Splendida about 4,500.

A record-breaking day in Cagliari's busiest month for cruise tourism, capping a remarkable year that saw over 600,000 cruise passengers arrive in the city, a 26% increase.

"The arrival of over 11,000 cruise passengers in a single day," commented Raffaella Del Prete, general manager of Cagliari Cruise Port, "is a particularly significant event for Cagliari and the entire region. Cruise traffic not only engages port businesses, but is also a well-established development opportunity for the local economy."
