Flags will be at half-mast tomorrow at the Regional Council in Cagliari to mark the National Day in Remembrance of the Victims of the Coronavirus Epidemic . The anniversary, established by Law No. 35 of March 18, 2021, represents a moment of reflection and tribute to all those who have lost their lives to Covid.

Today, the tragedy of the pandemic seems distant, yet just six years have passed. It was the evening of March 9, 2020, when Italy entered lockdown , marking a watershed moment in the country's recent history and that "before Covid" that so many today use to mark the milestones of their lives. Since then, the virus has changed habits, relationships, and daily life: from the fear of the unknown to restrictions, from curfews to masks, to the images that have become iconic of those months, such as the military vehicles loaded with coffins in Bergamo. During the hardest days, as many as a thousand victims per day, for a total death toll approaching two hundred thousand.

Sardinia also paid a very high price: 2,947 victims were counted on the island .
