Eighteen sentences of between 2 years and 10 months and 9 years of imprisonment were inflicted today by the judge of the Court of Cagliari, Roberto Cau, on as many defendants in the trial resulting from the "Marina Express" investigation into two alleged Cagliari gangs specialized in drug trafficking between Is Mirrionis, San Michele and the Marina.

According to the reconstruction of the district anti-mafia directorate of the capital, the two criminal groups would also have delivered drugs (cocaine, hashish and marijuana) to homes using "pony express". The heaviest sentences were inflicted by the judge on the two alleged ringleaders, Andrea Murru and Jonathan Pirina, respectively sentenced to 9 and 8 years in prison.

At the end of the trial with abbreviated rite, the judge accepted the reconstruction on the existence of the two criminal associations formulated by the public prosecutor Rossana Allieri (who had also asked for sentences of 22 years' imprisonment), but with respect to what was hypothesized by the public prosecution, the Court held that the two gangs were engaged in small-scale drug dealing and not in large-scale trafficking. All the convictions and the reconstruction of the investigation by the Flying Squad will be on the newsstands tomorrow on the Unione Sarda.
