Rail traffic between Cagliari and Decimomannu stations will be suspended from October 23 to 25 for maintenance and infrastructure upgrades.

Some Trenitalia (FS Group) regional trains on the Cagliari-Decimomannu, Cagliari-Olbia Terranova, Cagliari-Macomer, and Cagliari-Porto Torres Marittima lines will therefore be subject to changes. A replacement bus service is planned : travel times, Trenitalia specifies, may increase due to road traffic, and available seats may be fewer than on the normal service.

The work will primarily concern the railway bridge over the Rio Fangario, between Cagliari and Elmas , where two new steel spans will be installed to form the bridge's load-bearing structure. At the Cagliari station, the foundations for the poles supporting the train power lines will also be laid.

Approximately 50 specialized technicians from the contracting companies and RFI personnel will be employed, with a total investment of 3 million euros.
