The extraordinary cleaning of the streets and pavements started yesterday between the Marina and Stampace, in the historic center of the capital, is called "Cagliari clean city".
"The scenario - said the environmental councilor Luisa Giua Marassi - required a rapid intervention: the city appeared and appears dirty, in need of a real cleaning".
The team went into action with a pressurized water tanker, working even at night. The special intervention will continue at least throughout August.
The urban hygiene service is due to expire in September: «We are working - said Giua Marassi - on writing the lines for the new urban hygiene project. Now it is an extraordinary intervention, but we will ask for the introduction of washing. With door-to-door we have achieved almost 80% waste separation."
The old contract costs 39 million per year plus VAT. «We started with waste separation from 28% (2010 2011) - said the mayor of Cagliari Massimo Zedda - there has been a clear evolution and we are working to improve the service. It would be important at national and regional level to agree on rewards, for example the reduction of the Tari. We also take advantage of technologies: in the new contract we are aiming for low-impact means to intervene in an ever more profound way."
