A decrease in crimes of 4.69% throughout Sardinia and an increase of 1.72% in crimes prosecuted by the Carabinieri who in 12 months arrested 1,098 people, while 11,000 were reported.

These are some of the data highlighted by the regional commander of the Carabinieri, Brigadier General Stefano Iasson, during the ceremony for the 210th anniversary of the foundation of the Carabinieri which was held in the evening in the Zeddas barracks in Cagliari, headquarters of the Carabinieri Legion. Present, among others, were the governor Alessandra Todde, the prefects of Cagliari, Sassari, Nuoro and Oristano, the mayors of various centres, the provincial commanders of the carabinieri of Cagliari, Nuoro, Oristano and Sassari, military and religious authorities.

The ceremony, which opened at 6.30 pm with the deployment of a training department representing all the components of the force operating in Sardinia, from training to territorial, from mobile and special to forestry, environmental and agri-food, began with the honors were given to the Commander of the Legion who gave his speech after reading the messages from the President of the Republic and the General Commander.

Brigadier General Stefano Iasson , after having saluted the War Flag of the 9th Sardinia Carabinieri Battalion and the Banner of the City of Cagliari and thanked the military, civil and religious authorities present, addressed a thought to the fallen and their families , remembering also the Graduated Airman Stefano Pistis, joining his family and the entire Army. Finally, he addressed a warm greeting to both the young Carabinieri students of the Iglesias School.

The Commander of the Legion, in underlining the capillarity of the Carabinieri in Sardinia, present with 267 garrisons in 377 municipalities, highlighted a decline in the crime rate (-4.69%), with a simultaneous increase in the crimes prosecuted by the Force ( +1.72%), reiterated the importance of maintaining high attention both in the context of territorial control and in the action to combat crime and the reuse of illicit capital, summarized the results of the investigations carried out, which led to 1,097 arrests and around 11,000 complaints . Furthermore, in highlighting the nature of the murders that have hit the region, often a bloody epilogue to events born from personal disputes, he represented how 8 cases of the 9 investigated were resolved by the Army.

Both the decline in computer fraud (-4.18%), achieved also thanks to the constant training activity carried out by the force in favor of the elderly, and the particular attention paid to the phenomenon of gender violence , were highlighted. combating which the Army employs personnel specially trained at the Higher Institute of Investigative Techniques. Before thanking the Carabinieri and their families for the service provided and the fundamental, daily support, General Iasson specified how «the overall data confirm the goodness of the structural model chosen by the Force, with its own network of garrisons distributed throughout the territory at the service of the citizen and a vocation for dynamic control services".

In the last twelve months «the Army has increased the number of patrols and reconnaissances ensuring over 191,000 services in the area (with an average of 522 per day) to which must be added the public reception services in the barracks (more than 256,000 people). 645,000 subjects (+5.4%) and 456,000 cars (+3.86%) were identified, as well as over 37,000 crimes prosecuted, equal to 89% of the total in the region".

With reference to drug crimes, 3 criminal associations were discovered , seizing a total of 11 tons of marijuana, 250 tons of hashish, 6 of heroin, 6 of cocaine, 68 cannabis indica plantations, for a total of more than 51,000 plants , 171 people arrested and another 261 reported. These results were achieved only thanks to the strong understanding with the Judicial Authority, the mutual support with the other Police Forces in the many services carried out to guarantee public order and safety and the constant collaboration with the remaining Armed Forces in joint forces contexts. In closing, the Commander of the Legion wished a good job to the Professional Trade Union Associations among the Military and thanked the Carabinieri of the Island, of every order and rank, for the work carried out in the most varied tasks, for the daily fulfillment of the duty to the guarantee of safety and legality.
