"You don't joke about work. Today we are here to defend the dignity of thousands of call center workers, in Sardinia and throughout Italy, penalized by a contract that drastically worsens their economic and professional conditions": these are the words of the regional councilor of the Democratic Party, Camilla Soru, who this morning was in the square in Cagliari, in front of the Enel headquarters, during the demonstration of the operators in the sector.
Six thousand workers in Italy, 500 in Sardinia, distributed among various contracts of Unipol, Unisalute, Agos and, above all, Enel, the main client. Two hundred operators work in particular for the One call center, which manages part of the Enel contract.
The new national collective agreement signed by the Cisal union, contested this morning, has led to a clear worsening of contractual conditions: salary freeze, halving of permits, cancellation of seniority increases and absence of any social clause. A situation defined as unacceptable, the result of an agreement that favors companies to the detriment of employees.
To make matters worse, according to Soru, «is the role of Asso Contact, the association that represents the companies in the sector, which signed the contract with Cisal, benefiting from a contractual contribution of 300,000 euros per year. In Italy, to date, there is no law that prevents such maneuvers, leaving room for contracts that reduce the cost of labor indiscriminately».
"We officially ask Enel to abandon Asso Contact and send a strong signal: work cannot be the object of downward negotiation. If Enel pulls out, the entire contract collapses and a new perspective opens up for these workers," Soru said.
Article 12 of Enel's agreements requires that contracting companies must apply the same contractual conditions. However, the new national contract signed by Asso Contact "creates a dangerous precedent that risks lowering standards for all workers in the sector. It is time to fill the regulatory gap that allows the signing of pirate contracts", concludes the Democratic Party representative.
