There is an alarm over bed bugs in the Geriatrics ward of the Santissima Trinità hospital in Cagliari.
The provincial secretary of Fials, Paolo Cugliara, who was sent photos from inside the hospital rooms, reported the workers' complaints and publicly denounced the difficult conditions in the Is Mirrionis hospital ward.
"The mattresses in the Geriatrics ward are literally full of these bedbugs," the union representative says. The department reportedly notified the local health authority. "But nothing happens: we're told," the union representative continues, "that nurses and healthcare assistants bear the marks of these bug bites."
All this, Cugliara further accuses, "while the ASL management is concerned about the activation of community homes and hospitals, further creating disruption and disorganization in local facilities."
Cugliara is blunt: "We are in total chaos."
