The Carabinieri of the Cagliari Company's Mobile Radio Section arrested a 54-year-old unemployed man, believed to be responsible for an attempted robbery.
The military's intervention was triggered by a timely report to 112 by staff at a supermarket in the city center.
The man, after entering the business, allegedly attempted to steal various food items by hiding them under his clothes.
Discovered by an employee, he then did not hesitate to push him in order to escape, turning the theft into a real attempted robbery.
However, the immediate search launched by Carabinieri patrols allowed them to locate and apprehend the fugitive nearby. During the investigation and search, the Carabinieri located the stolen goods, which were recovered and promptly returned to their rightful owners.
Once the formal procedures were completed, the man, already known to the police, was arrested and placed in a holding cell, where he remained at the disposal of the judicial authorities until the fast-track trial which validated the arrest.
