An attack violently interrupted the distribution of leaflets for the Referendum on work and citizenship at the market in via Quirra in Cagliari. This morning, a Fillea Cgil official was distributing leaflets and giving information to citizens on the ramp leading to the entrance of the market: a 74-year-old street vendor approached him and first verbally attacked him with insulting phrases, then pushed him.
The attacker first shouted at the officer to go away, then the situation degenerated: the fight continued and the intervention of the Carabinieri was necessary. In the meantime, they had received a request for help from the officer: he had reported that he had been threatened with a cross-shaped wrench, which the street vendor had taken from his car . The vendor, clearly agitated, reacted even more violently at the sight of the officers, pushing and shoving the officers in an attempt to escape control.
The Carabinieri managed to stop him: the street vendor was arrested and taken to the barracks. While awaiting the direct trial, he is now under house arrest . "We strongly condemn this unfortunate episode," declared Cgil and Fillea Cagliari. "It was an isolated episode, for the rest, the participation of the citizens who frequent the market was significant."
"We thank the police for their immediate intervention that ensured the situation did not degenerate," the note from Cgil and Fillea Cagliari, with the union reporting that it will continue to involve and inform all citizens until the vote on June 8 and 9.
