The traditional nativity scene created inside the Botanical Garden of the University of Cagliari is renewed, among large trees, shrubs, bulbs and herbs from Africa, America, the Asian continent and Australia.
There is no shortage of numerous representatives of the Mediterranean flora that successfully coexist in the spaces of the Botanical Garden, some of which were present even before its foundation.
The terracotta statues of the Assemini tradition have been placed in the shade of the Swamp Cypress (Taxodium distichum (L.) Rich.), a large tree that has been present in the Botanical Garden since its foundation. It is a wonderful specimen that in its country of origin – North America – grows in marshy areas with its roots in the mud. At the base of the large trunk, the nativity and the characters interact well, sheltered by the long branches that bear leaves that change color in the winter, from bright green to rust, before falling to the ground, giving the surrounding space a suggestive color.
The nativity scene was created by the gardeners and technical staff of the Hortus Botanicus Karalitanus Centre of the University of Cagliari and can be visited until 12 January 2025, from Tuesday to Sunday during the opening hours of the Botanical Garden (continuously from 9 am to 4 pm - closed on Mondays for weekly rest).
