Just as overall road accidents in the Metropolitan City of Cagliari increased in 2024, 1029 compared to 893 in 2023, the number of injured also increased: 1322, compared to 1,156 in the previous year .

However, the number of fatalities has decreased: 23 people died in road accidents, five fewer than the previous year. However, for the president of the Automobile Club Cagliari, Antonello Fiori , there's little cause for celebration; instead, action is needed on prevention and education regarding compliance with the Highway Code. "The decline in the number of fatalities is an encouraging sign, but it's not enough," Fiori comments. " We must continue to promote a culture of safety, remembering that any distraction or improper behavior can turn into tragedy. Respecting the rules, paying attention, and reducing speed remain the keys to saving lives."

In this sense, initiatives have been carried out throughout the year aimed at raising awareness, especially among young people and not only.

Like "A Stroll in Safety," a project conceived by the Sardinian Highway Police Department and shared with the Ministry of Education and Merit, which concluded with an event that brought together over 800 students from schools of all levels at the Fair for a day dedicated to road safety education and increased awareness (particularly touching were the testimonies of the parents of Najbe Lavinia Zaher, a twenty-year-old who lost her life along with three other children in the terrible accident on Viale Marconi in 2023);

But road safety is built first and foremost through cooperation between institutions. For this reason, AC Cagliari participated in the Road Accident Observatory convened by the Prefect of Cagliari, Giuseppe Castaldo . The road safety awareness campaign, launched last year on public transport buses and confirmed for 2025, continues to spread the message of road safety and sustainable mobility.

A new event is also planned for this year with Sara Safe Factor, the road safety education initiative by ACI and Sara Assicurazioni that promotes safety among young people through sport.
