The results of the tests carried out at the Spallanzani Hospital in Rome on the blood sample taken from the 46-year-old Italian citizen, originally from Congo, for the suspected case of Ebola in the city , after the man landed in Elmas, coming from Rome and from a trip to Kinshasa, with high fever, headache and other symptoms attributable to the disease , were negative.

The Ministry of Health made the announcement, specifying that "the risk in Italy remains very low."

The city is therefore breathing a sigh of relief, but the man remains under close observation at the Santissima Trinità.

The call to the head of the Infectious Diseases department at the Santissima Trinità Hospital, Goffredo Angioni, came in at 2:00 a.m. yesterday . The 46-year-old's wife, who is currently in isolation at home under local health authority (ASL) monitoring, was asking for help given her husband's condition and his origins in an area where Ebola is prevalent. Emergency services were then dispatched, but the man, a resident of Via Manno, was only recovered by rescuers in the afternoon , around 3:30 p.m., so that appropriate transportation and personnel could be arranged and dedicated spaces could be set up.

The 46-year-old was not stopped at Fiumicino for an initial health assessment by the border health offices, as indicated by the ministry protocol, because during the long journey he had also stopped in Cairo , therefore, he was registered as arriving from Egypt.

Meanwhile, after being admitted to hospital, the patient is under close monitoring and his condition still appears good .
