A regrettable act in Genneruxi . This time, vandals targeted the marble plaque dedicated to those who tragically lost their lives in road accidents . "Road Victims Square" reads the plaque affixed to the small park between Via Lione and Via dei Vittorini. The plaque was completely destroyed by stone pelting . Eyewitnesses (residents of the buildings facing the square) saw a large group of teenagers pelting the plaque with stones.

It happened a few days ago, on a Saturday night, when young people usually gather to party until late. "I was asleep when I heard loud noises coming from the square," said a resident, "so I looked out and saw some kids destroying the plaque. I was shocked; everyone here cared about what was supposed to be a tribute to road victims."

The fragments are still on the ground and have not been collected. The square was named after and the plaque was unveiled in November 2016, on the occasion of "World Road Traffic Victims' Day," with the aim, among other things, of raising awareness of the crucial issue of road safety. A mass and a candlelight vigil were also held. The Association of Road Victims and Relatives (ETS) expresses regret: "The plaque represents the memory of so many lost lives and the pain of the families," says national vice president Silvia Frisina. "Vandalizing a symbol dedicated to the victims means damaging a place of remembrance that belongs to the entire community ." Cagliari Mayor Massimo Zedda, for his part, promises: "We will reposition it soon. Unfortunately, there are uncivilized people, few in number, but always ready to destroy public property."
