A brawl between Algerians has raised the alarm again in Piazza del Carmine, the heart of Cagliari's red zone.

The Carabinieri crackdown on the security-sensitive area followed an operation carried out in recent days, triggered by calls from numerous citizens: a fight between a group of foreigners had been reported to 112.

The officers immediately located a young Algerian man with several stab wounds to his wrist and left thigh. The man reported being attacked by three fellow Algerians who, after striking him, stole two bags of groceries from him and then quickly fled before patrols arrived.

The victim of the attack was treated. But during the checks, it was discovered that he was carrying a kitchen knife measuring 24 centimeters in length.

The incident prompted the provincial command of the Carabinieri to intensify checks over the weekend, based on the prefectural ordinance establishing the red zone.

In a joint operation involving officers from the Radiomobile unit and colleagues from the Cagliari Villanova, Stampace, and Sant'Avendrace stations, 86 people were identified. The checks then led to the immediate removal from the area of seven men, aged between 21 and 42, originally from Tunisia, Algeria, Gambia, Guinea, and Senegal. Some were homeless, while others resided in various towns on the island, such as Villacidro, Selargius, San Gavino Monreale, and the capital itself. All were already known to the police.
