A supermarket on Viale Marconi in Cagliari was the scene of a theft last night . A 31-year-old man allegedly stole various items worth several hundred euros, managing to escape the store before law enforcement arrived.

The escape, however, was brief, the man was intercepted and stopped by the Carabinieri a short distance away : he is an unemployed man of Algerian origin , with no fixed abode and already known to the Police Force.

Once the incident was reconstructed and the formal procedures completed, the man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated theft and, by order of the competent judicial authority, was held in holding cells pending trial in a fast-track hearing scheduled for this morning.
