Cadmium and other poisons in the soil risk polluting the aquifers: new pollution alarm in the Portovesme Srl landfill in Genna Luas. The Environment office of the Province of Southern Sardinia has sent a new warning to the Glencore company: the checks on the waste water from the landfill and surrounding land have led to alarming results that require, as requested by the Province, an immediate adaptation of the first rain water treatment plant. Portovesme Srl has thirty days to comply with the Environment office's request.
The previous warning dates back to about four months ago and concerned the significant delays in the construction of the leachate treatment plant. Some anonymous reports arrived last November, when the news of the warning was made public, led to checks by Arpas and Forestale on the waste water.
The results written down in black and white on the report that arrived at the provincial offices triggered the new warning.
