The workers were removing the floor to replace it with marble, as the building's redevelopment project foresees. But then someone noticed that there was something anomalous: under the tiles there was the wall base of an ancient building . It is still not certain but it could be the ancient castle of the Arboreas.

The renovation works of the church of Santa Maria Assunta, in Cabras , have stopped for now. The discovery took place inside the church where renovation work is underway by the Municipality of Cabras.

Immediately afterwards, the intervention of the Superintendency was requested, which arrived in Cabras for an inspection: "During the renovation of the flooring along the side chapels of the church, some alignments of walls emerged concentrated in the northern sector of the building - explains the archaeologist Maura Vargiu - One of the identified structures seems to be pertinent to a building phase prior to the large and profound 19th-20th century renovations. We will now proceed to document the walls that have emerged in order to acquire all the information useful for clarifying the chronology".

It is still impossible to make predictions about the resumption of work: «In general, the entity of the discovery that has come to light is first verified - explains Superintendent Monica Stochino - and then we understand whether to continue digging or to secure the asset and guarantee the usability of the building".

The building, as the history books narrate, was built in the last years of the 15th century, right on the ashes of what used to be the Arborea castle.
