There is a new case of West Nile fever . The patient, a seventy-year-old from Cabras , visited the emergency room of San Martino Hospital in Oristano with fever symptoms and was discharged with home treatment.

This brings the number of symptomatic cases of West Nile virus confirmed in 2025 in the entire province of Oristano to 35.

The Local Health Authority (ASL) announced that an epidemiological investigation has already begun and the area where the infected individual lives has been cordoned off to allow for disinfection within 200 meters of the home. "Once again, we recommend, especially for the frail and elderly, adopting all preventive and protective measures against mosquitoes, the insect that transmits the West Nile virus," reiterated Maria Valentina Marras, Director of the Health and Prevention Department of the Local Health Authority (ASL) 5 of Oristano. "Therefore, avoid standing water, where larvae breed, by frequently emptying pet bowls, plant pots, containers, and children's pools. It is also important when outdoors, especially at dusk, to cover your body, legs, and arms with light-colored clothing, use repellent spray, and put mosquito nets on doors and windows to ensure your home is safe."
