A former police inspector was acquitted for failing to comply with regulations during the Covid period.

The story dates back to September 3, 2021, during the height of the coronavirus emergency. Antonio Vacca, 73, from Cabras, had tested positive for coronavirus and was in isolation. He was nearing the end of the lockdown when he was forced to go out to buy urgent supplies, partly because his wife was also ill.

However, when he arrived at the supermarket in the shopping centre, he was seen by a colleague who immediately reported the presence of a positive case (and, according to her, a possible source of infection) in the market.

There was considerable confusion, the police arrived, and a complaint was filed. Vacca went to trial, assisted by his lawyer Rafaele Cocco, but he managed to prove his innocence. The lawyer demonstrated that a period of isolation requires a measure notified by the mayor, emphasizing that a restriction on personal freedom cannot be imposed simply with a text message from the local health authority. Judge Laura Sulis therefore acquitted the former inspector.
