The Businco operating rooms are closing today, having been transferred to San Michele for the redevelopment of the Cagliari oncology hospital.
This is stated in the resolution of April 10th by Arnas Brotzu, and Usb Sanità raises the alarm for a "catastrophic" health policy that causes "unacceptable damage" for cancer patients .
" The executive project and the schedule of the works, which should last several years, remain unknown ," denounces the union, according to which the lack of these two elements is a symptom of a " total lack of planning " and "amateurish management of healthcare."
Sending cancer patients to San Michele, a "collapsing hospital with a skeleton staff," is "immoral and irresponsible." The departments, the union points out, "are not accredited and do not meet the safety requirements necessary to accommodate cancer patients." And the choice of the seventh floor of San Michele, "with insufficient bathrooms and a lack of adequate equipment, is completely irrational."
Usb suspects that Arnas Brotzu is pursuing a strategy aimed at the "progressive closure of Businco and oncological thoracic surgery".
"What will happen to the Sardinian patients?" asks Gianfranco Angioni , regional representative of Usb Sanità. "We foresee a hospital-ward with patients forced to move between San Michele and Businco, or they will be forced to seek treatment elsewhere , thus compromising their right to health."
Here comes yet another urgent appeal to the Region to "immediately block a project whose only objective seems to be the use of PNRR funds to the detriment of citizen care".
"A health catastrophe is unfolding for cancer patients," concludes the USB, which says it is ready to file a complaint with the Public Prosecutor's Office.
THE BROTZU REASSURS
Arnas Brotzu, in recent days, in conjunction with the latest demonstration against the works and the consequent transfer of patients, has tried to reassure everyone. Emphasizing the goodness of a project "that will bring great benefits to the community" and explaining that there will be no interruption of care , nor inconvenience for cancer patients.
Starting today, explains the company management, "the activities of the Gynecological Oncology, Thoracic Surgery and Interventional Endoscopy and General Surgery with an Oncological focus structures will be temporarily located at the San Michele Hospital, where they will continue regularly according to the already planned calendar ."
In detail. For Oncological Gynecology, «the current hospitalization sites, both at the San Michele Hospital and at Businco, will continue to accommodate patients to ensure continuity of care». The Thoracic Surgery and Interventional Endoscopy department has been assigned a newly built room in the north wing of the seventh floor of the San Michele. The same wing and same floor for General Surgery care with an Oncological focus.
In short, " the new logistical structure is perfectly capable of guaranteeing the regular performance of healthcare activities " and has been "carefully studied to ensure a unified and uninterrupted healthcare pathway , within a hospital network that always puts the patient at the centre".
