The local public transport workers in Cagliari had a 70 percent participation in the strike. The first data, provided by the Orsa union, concern CTM, the city's transport company. Employee representatives also confirmed "high participation" at Arst, the regional company that connects the various locations on the island with buses. Also at the companies Atp of Sassari, Atp of Nuoro and Aspo of Olbia - the Orsa union confirmed - there was a high participation in the protest.
"More data," explains the union, "will be available tomorrow after the conclusion of the strike that will end with the end of today's service in each company."
The strike was called for the renewal of the national contract of bus and tram drivers because, as stated in a note, "the employers' associations and the government continue to ignore the requests put forward by the National Secretariat of Orsa Trasporti Autoferro Tpl through a specific contractual platform".
The main requests: increase in workers' wages (not less than 20%) in order to financially recover what was lost due to the increase in the cost of living, reduction of working hours to 36 hours per week, resolution of the problem relating to the safety of travelling and "front-line" personnel.
