Bureaucracy and blocked procedures, payment delays, and the lack of territorial continuity of goods, but also inefficient water management and ongoing speculation amid wars and tariffs. These are some of the issues to which Sardinian farmers and ranchers are demanding answers, and which will bring the island's agricultural community to the streets in the demonstration promoted by Coldiretti Sardegna in Cagliari.
Tomorrow's demonstration, Wednesday, March 18 (starting at 10:30 a.m.), will bring Sardinia's agricultural and pastoral heritage to the heart of the city, with farmers from across the island calling for attention and concrete action on issues that directly impact business competitiveness, the economic viability of farms, and the future of rural areas.
The procession will depart from Piazzale Trento, in front of the Regional Palace, and head towards the Regional Council on Via Roma, where a sit-in is planned in front of the headquarters of politics.
During the rally, Coldiretti will deliver a document with a set of proposals for revitalizing Sardinia's agricultural and agri-food sector.
Among the issues at the heart of the protest were the protection of livestock farmers' incomes affected by health emergencies, the management of wildlife that is causing increasing damage to the countryside, the protection of Sardinian produce from unfair market competition, and the need to stop speculation on energy costs that weighs on agricultural businesses.
During the morning, the president of Coldiretti Sardegna Battista Cualbu, the regional director, Luca Saba and the leaders of the organisation arriving from the various areas of the island will speak.
