Sixty years of priesthood: Monsignor Gianfranco Zuncheddu will celebrate it today in Burcei, his hometown, with a Mass scheduled for 6:00 PM in the town's parish church and next Sunday at 6:30 PM in the church of Seuni, a small hamlet of Selegas, where Monsignor Zuncheddu has administered religious and pastoral activities for years.
Ordained a priest in 1966 in the Basilica of Bonaria in Cagliari by Archbishop Paolo Botto, after attending the seminaries of Dolianova and Cuglieri, he immediately became assistant to the young seminarians and then chaplain of the Giorgino Re-education Institute. He also worked with Monsignor Piero Monni at the Regional Assistance Center for Immigrants.
For ten years he was also the editor of Orientamenti, the diocese's newspaper. He was then parish priest in Elmas and Quartucciu, chaplain of the Oncology Department and the State Police in Sardinia, advocate for the Sacred Roman Catholic Church, and postulator of the causes of saints.
A scholar of the Sardinian language, he celebrated Selargino weddings in limba for about ten years. A highly cultured priest, close to the people, he today returns to his native Burcei, where he will be welcomed by his fellow villagers, a place to which he has always been particularly close.
