After Saturday's blackout and the test carried out today on the electrical systems that went haywire, the Brotzu in Cagliari reopens. What then turned into a nightmare for patients and doctors was triggered by a fault in an electrical substation.

The hospital's activities remained on standby today, awaiting the green light from the technical office, guaranteeing only life-saving interventions and assistance to the 527 patients already admitted to the facility . Today's blackout resulted in the "total blockade of the operating rooms and the emergency room, with a blockade of the cardiac intensive unit", as explained by Raimondo Pinna, medical director of Arnas Brotzu.

The long-awaited restart will not be at full capacity and will proceed gradually: only half of the 21 operating rooms will be accessible and the haemodynamics department will operate exclusively for emergencies.
