The news was reported by the national delegate for Sardinia of the Sappe Antonio Cannas who recounts the day of madness in the Sassari prison. «First a policeman - he reports - was treacherously attacked by an inmate while the latter was out for exercise: having approached the officer with an excuse, the inmate grabbed him and made him slam against the bars, scratching him and hitting him on the knee». But the violence continued shortly after. «Then, about ten inmates in Section I, where there are also psychiatric inmates, dangerously faced each other with sticks and other rudimentary weapons, so much so that one inmate was stabbed».

The union denounces the latest attack, declaring that "the working conditions inside the institute have become unsustainable". For this reason, Cannas concludes, "we urgently request a decisive intervention by the Department of Penitentiary Administration and the Ministry of Justice: we need personnel, we need guarantees and we need protection. It is no longer acceptable that the agents are left alone to face increasing risks, without support or recognition".

"Let's start again from these serious events that occurred in the Bancali prison - comments Donato Capece, national secretary of Sappe - to put an end to the long wave of dismantling of prison security policies implemented in the past".
