Compensation for bovine dermatitis will only be available to those who have vaccinated all their animals by September 30th .

The Regional Council made this decision, today approving the directives for granting compensation to farmers affected by the spread of the virus.

The resolution by Agriculture Councilor Gian Franco Satta and his colleague Emanuele Cani (Industry) allocates one million euros to businesses operating in the slaughter and meat processing sector, which will be managed by the Industry Department . The remaining €17.2 million allocated by the Region will be managed by the Agriculture Department, through Laore, and will be allocated to livestock farms subject to forced culling orders or otherwise affected by restrictive health measures aimed at containing the spread of the virus.

Five hundred thousand euros are earmarked for "de minimis" aid to businesses affected by the outbreak and subject to a culling order . They will receive a one-time production recovery contribution equal to 10% of the standard gross production of their cattle herd in 2024.

Another €200,000 will go to animals that die of dermatitis before being slaughtered , for which the same ISMEA rate used by local health authorities to pay for slaughtered animals will be applied. €300,000 will be for any compensation related to the side effects of vaccination , which leads to a drop in milk production.

And finally, the bulk, the remaining 16.2 million , is allocated to damages due to the lack of movement of livestock . For cattle aged between 6 and 20 months, a flat-rate daily compensation of 5.45 euros per head is recognized, while, in dairy farms only, for cattle aged between 2 and 4 months, the flat-rate daily compensation will be 2 euros per head . These funds will be disbursed for a two-month period, from the date of the ban's establishment (3 July) to its revocation (3 September 2025).

An essential requirement for obtaining compensation is the vaccination of all animals present in the farms by 30 September, "except for any postponements ordered by the health authority" .

Satta said he was "satisfied" with the work done by all parties involved and "thanked" the farmers "who had confidence in the efforts implemented by the Region."

We can now look to the future with greater confidence, explains the member of the Regional Council, emphasizing that "for over a week now, internal movement of cattle has been possible for those who have vaccinated their animals more than 28 days ago, and if vaccination forecasts are confirmed, we could reach the minimum thresholds required for herd immunity by the end of September ."

The councilor also appeals to those who have refused to vaccinate their animals: "Trust science and vaccinate immediately to defeat the disease and return to full work." The procedures for disbursing compensation, he promises, "will be streamlined and expedited."

"We promised that no farmer would be left alone, and today we are demonstrating concreteness beyond words," comments Alessandra Todde . "These are just the first resources," promises the president. " Further funding will be available once the budget law approved in August comes into force , ensuring continued and concrete support for the sector."
