A comprehensive investigation is underway following the botulism scare triggered by the "Fiesta Latina," which stopped in Monserrato a few days ago. Eight people have now been hospitalized for poisoning. Two new patients are being treated in the Neurology department at Brotzu Hospital, where a 38-year-old woman remains in intensive care and is in serious condition. Following the first suspected cases, the Regional Health Department immediately activated the alert system, involving the Cagliari and Ogliastra local health authorities to contain the risk of spread.
The traveling festival, which had since reached Tortolì, was suspended as a precaution by local authorities. Epidemiological investigations are underway to reconstruct the source of the infection: currently, the main suspects are a guacamole sauce consumed by all the patients.
The Local Health Authority (ASL), in contact with the festival organizers, is tracking the event and the food supply chain involved, to monitor any further cases at the regional and extra-regional level.
