The preliminary investigation into the 57-year-old Sassari woman accused of embezzlement and fraud against the Municipality of Borutta has been concluded. The investigation was conducted by the Guardia di Finanza and coordinated by the case manager, Sassari Deputy Public Prosecutor Giovanni Porcheddu.
According to the charges, the woman, Giovanna Angela Bonu, then head of the Municipality's Tax and Financial Services Department , allegedly took over €134,000 from 2018 to 2024, including income tax refunds, Christmas bonuses, and other undue payments. According to the charges, between 2021 and 2024, she allegedly embezzled over €225,000 through dozens of wire transfers from the municipal bank account to her own.
The woman is also suspected of fraud because, as head of the aforementioned office, she allegedly had the Municipality pay several thousand euros to INPS between 2018 and 2024, so as to be able to benefit from better social security benefits in the future. However, these sums were not owed to her.
This last step was unsuccessful after the municipality filed a complaint, which triggered an investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office. For her defense, the woman relied on attorneys Elisabetta Udassi and Marco Manca.
