A suspect has revealed the name of someone who, for months, had a fictitious social media profile targeting the mayor of Bortigali, Francesco Caggiari, who was repeatedly targeted with defamatory accusations and insults. The Facebook profile, under the fictitious name of Sara Fois, was later revealed to be fake. The accusations and insults continued for months, so much so that the matter was investigated not only by the Prefecture of Nuoro but also by the Oristano Prosecutor's Office.

The mayor, at the time, formally responded to these attacks, filing a complaint with the Public Prosecutor's Office to identify the perpetrator. This case created a toxic atmosphere in the town, despite Caggiari having received the support of other local mayors and most of his residents. In recent days, the Public Prosecutor's Office, following a thorough investigation conducted by the Carabinieri of the Macomer branch and the Bortigali and Birori stations, opened criminal proceedings against a 46-year-old man for stalking, as he is responsible for the accusations and insults directed at the mayor on social media.

"I hope the proceedings continue and the person or persons responsible for these incidents are brought to justice. I also hope this can serve as a warning for similar crimes committed against other administrators over the years," the mayor wrote. "I therefore thank the Prefect of Nuoro for his interest, as well as the commander of the Macomer Carabinieri company and the Bortigali and Birori stations. I reaffirm my full confidence in the judiciary."
