He had been sentenced to four years and three months in prison on April 30, 2024, by the judges of the Oristano court, found guilty of embezzlement and forgery. He had waived the statute of limitations in the 2015 Hazzard case, after having received a dozen acquittals, wanting to prove his innocence. The following month, as required by the Severino Law, Mayor Tore Ghisu, re-elected in the 2021 elections, was suspended from office. Today, after 18 months, he has resumed his duties as mayor, following the communication from the Prefect of Nuoro, which certified the end of the suspension period.
"I therefore legitimately return to the office that the citizens of Borore entrusted to me, with broad consensus, following the October 2021 elections," he says with satisfaction. "I will do so, once again, with the same seriousness, the same passion, the same commitment, and the same integrity that have always distinguished my work. I will do so driven, as always, by a spirit of service, attention to the needs of the community, and the desire to contribute to the growth of our town and our region. I will now await, with serenity and unwavering confidence, the upcoming second-instance ruling, in the knowledge that I have always acted honestly, with integrity, in compliance with the law and the public interest. This same knowledge led me, with conviction, to waive the statute of limitations in order to fully affirm the honesty, integrity, and correctness of the actions and conduct I have performed in carrying out the role and public function associated with my administrative mandate. I would like to thank the employees, councilors, and aldermen for their fruitful work throughout this period. I especially thank Alessandro Porcu, who has led the Municipality admirably, with great commitment, dedication, and effectiveness.
In the past 18 months, the mayoral duties have been passed to his deputy, Alessandro Porcu, who will now return to his role as deputy mayor and continue to hold his administrative positions in the Province of Nuoro.
