Villasor, a frightening fire: half the air fleet responds. State roads are closed for hours.

Another dark day on the fire front in Sardinia. The first emergency was triggered in Bonorva, due to a blaze just outside the town. The emergency then moved south, to the countryside of Villasor.

Fear in Bonorva

First one from the Anela base, then the SuperPuma from Fenosu. But it was also necessary to dispatch two more helicopters to counter the advance of a fire that had broken out just outside Bonorva.

The operations were coordinated by the town's forestry station.

The manager managed air assets and ground teams to ensure that the fire front did not threaten homes.

Emergency in Villasor

The firefighting machinery was also mobilized from the early afternoon in the south, in the Villasor area in the Su Pranu area, close to the State Road 196.

Six aircraft intervened in the area : the two helicopters that initially went into action were joined by a Canadair from Olbia, an Air Force helicopter, a SuperPuma from Fenosu plus another light aircraft sent from Pula.

- Update 4:30 PM: State roads closed

In Villasor, the intervention of the Fenosu light helicopter and the Lima 04 army helicopter was also necessary. The flames entered the Villacidro racecourse.

Due to the fire, traffic is temporarily blocked on a stretch of state road 293 “di Giba” between km 15 and km 17, and on a stretch of state road 196 “di Villacidro”, between km 13 and km 17, in Villacidro.

- Update 6:45 PM: Traffic is back to normal on state highway 196. The fire is being controlled.
