It was supposed to be a 150,000 euro robbery, but it ended with a loot of just 2,000 and a very heavy sentence .
Nuoro preliminary hearing judge Alessandra Ponti sentenced Marco Minimo Prina (defended by Francesco Lai) to 7 years and 4 months in prison, considering him the sole person identified for the assault on the BNL branch in Via Manzoni on May 9, 2022. Prosecutor Riccardo Belfiori had requested an 8-year prison sentence.
Alessio Prina (defended by Mario Silvestro Pittalis) was also sentenced to 3 years and 2 months for possession of marijuana. Carabiniere Luca Lai (defended by Lorenzo Soro) was acquitted. He was initially investigated for lending a pistol to Alessio Prina. A new expert report and a replay of the wiretap ruled out any connection to the officer's weapon; both men were using their own, legally held, weapons.
The robbery took place shortly before 11:00 a.m .: two masked men burst into the bank armed with weapons , targeting the shipment of cash just delivered by a Vigilpol armored vehicle. The plan didn't go as planned; the loot was worth 2,000 euros, then their escape in a Fiat Doblò, caught on camera, betrayed the gang.
The vehicle was registered to Prina's brother, who was initially arrested and later exonerated after the defendant confessed to driving. The armed accomplice and the inside man remain unnamed.
A heist that was supposed to bring in tens of thousands of euros ended up in just a few banknotes and years in prison.
