An afternoon of fear was experienced in Iglesias , due to a big fire that broke out in the Virgin Mary area, on the outskirts of the city.
The flames involved many teams and it was necessary the intervention of two helicopters - one from the base of Marganai and the other from that of Pula - to stop the advance of the fire.
Only because the wind was blowing eastward, therefore in the direction of the scrub, the houses in the area were not reached. But a pall of smoke and ash darkened the sky.
The Forest Service, during the intervention, also requested and obtained the disconnection of the high voltage lines, to avoid further damage. At around 6 pm, the containment and reclamation operations were underway.
