This evening, starting at 6:30 PM at the Sirio Theatre in Monserrato, oriental dance takes center stage in an event that combines entertainment, culture, and artistic vision.
Leading the audience on this journey between tradition and modernity will be the "Sahara Oriental Dancers," a group founded in 2023 with the aim of promoting Middle Eastern dances and Arab folklore through courses, performances, and cultural events.
Made up of three professional dancers and qualified teachers – Sara Murroni (aka Sara Nakshidil), Jasmine Aresu (Jasmine Alsahara), and Elisa Serra (Elisa Nawal) – the group boasts nearly twenty years of experience in the world of oriental dance, with performances performed in numerous locations in Sardinia and beyond.
"Our goal," the group members explain, "is to further raise awareness of Oriental dance and elevate it to an ever-higher level in our region, focusing on unity and collaboration throughout the region. Together, we can organize ever-larger events and even more prestigious study opportunities, which would undoubtedly enrich the knowledge of both professional and amateur dancers."
Training and research are at the heart of their journey: their study of the discipline led them to Egypt, where they were able to gain a firsthand understanding of the culture of the peoples who gave rise to the dances they practice.
Among their significant experiences was the Mashrabiya Festival in Caserta, one of the most important events in Italy, where they represented Sardinia with a choreography inspired by the Janas, fairies of island folklore, winning second place in the professional group category. From this shared vision, tonight's performance was born as a showcase open to all local dancers, with over 45 dancers from the island. "During the evening, there will also be a raffle with a prize: a study opportunity we've organized with an international artist in the field who will be coming to Sardinia for the first time on May 23rd and 24th," the trio concludes.
