The holiday ended in tragedy. A 69-year-old German tourist died this afternoon after suddenly falling ill at Cala Mariolu, on the Baunei coast. He died of a suspected heart attack.

Around 12:30 p.m., the man was on the beach when he collapsed. Those nearby immediately raised the alarm. The tourist was loaded aboard a boat that reached Cala Gonone: a tens of minutes of emergency crossing.

During the journey, resuscitation attempts never stopped , and although ambulance personnel also intervened at the small port in the hamlet of Dorgali, there was nothing more that could be done for the 69-year-old.

The 118 operations center also alerted the Echo Lima 1 helicopter, which took off from its Olbia base. The aircraft reached the area and landed at the Dorgali sports field.

All to no avail: after being informed of the tourist's death, the crew returned to base without the patient on board.
