The rescue operation for three hikers in difficulty along the Plumare via ferrata in the Baunei area concluded at 11:15 PM yesterday.

Due to an unexpected event while abseiling, the three became stranded and, unable to continue, called for help using the Georesq app, a 24-hour geolocation and rescue call forwarding service with an operator who answers calls and directly alerts the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps.

The alarm, raised around 6:00 PM yesterday, was handled by the Sassari headquarters, which forwarded the coordinates of the hikers' location to the rescue teams. Three technicians from the Ogliastra station, assisted by two members of the Guardia di Finanza's Alpine Rescue team, arrived on site.

At the same time, support from the Italian Air Force was requested, which responded with the helicopter of the 80th SAR Center of the 15th Wing in Decimomannu. The aircraft, which took off with three Alpine Rescue helicopter technicians on board, attempted to approach the rock face, but due to the strong mistral winds that are blowing in the area, the attempt was unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the teams on the ground reached the hikers and, after checking their health, lowered them from the ledge where they were standing to the trail, before accompanying them back to their cars.
