Antonio Bangoni, who spent the best years of his youth in the Baunesis mountains and has been a member of the prestigious Ogliastra centenarians' club for a few days, celebrated his centenarian milestone yesterday in the mountains of Golgo, in the company of his children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
Born in Baunei on November 3, 1925, Siu Antoni, as a boy between 1939 and 1941, was the village “mannalissargiu” (the shepherd who took the entire community’s domestic goats to pasture, which at the time guaranteed each family the milk they needed daily), then a goatherd in the mountains between Cala Sisine and Cala Luna, and also a skilled lime producer using the ancient method of baking limestone at high temperatures.
Among the memories of a life of great sacrifice recalled yesterday, those linked to the two years in which he was among the workers in the malaria eradication campaign stood out.
